Sober Living or Holy Living
Leviticus 20:7 Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the LORD your God.
1Peter 1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation(the word used here “conversation” means “lifestyle”);
1Peter 1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
If I go to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, I will see people stand up and say “I am an alcoholic..etc.”
I want to help the person that has a so called drug or drinking or pornography problem, whatever it is. Let us get our facts right.
Every person has a SIN problem. If they take care of the sin problems in their life, it will always solve their drug, drinking and any other problem they have. Drunkenness is a work of the flesh. Galatians 5 has a long list of what fruits someone will produce if the walk in the flesh, and not the Spirit.
Galatians 5:18 “But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.”
Smoking Marijuana makes you drunk, under the control of something other than the Holy Spirit. It is the same thing.
Note the following verses that show the fruits of a persons life if they are under the control of the Holy Spirit.
22 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”
A person is not born with the Holy Spirit. When a person ism truly born again, when they repent, turn from their sinful lifestyle, and desire to go God’s way, admitting they can not save or help their selves in any way, and put their trust only and completely in the death burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ made for them in their place. The Holy Spirit then enters that persons heart, forever, and seals them. (Ephesians 1:13)
Why are you writing me this?
Because false substitutes will never solve the problem. No psychiatrist can help you stop sinning, no AA program or NA program can help you stop the sin problem everyone has, the only way to overcome sin is through faith in the power of Jesus Christ as you walk and are controlled by the Holy spirit, not by the flesh.
A person may be able to stop drinking alcohol, through there own will power, but they can never stop sinning on their own, without Jesus Christ.
I get weary of people telling me about “their higher power” they are trusting in their “drug rehab” program. There is only 2 powers, God (Jesus Christ) and Satan. You can not choose your OWN power (as if you made it up yourself or something), but you can choose God to help you, The Highest Power! He never fails.
When I am tempted I begin begging God to help me resist and overcome the temptation, whatever lust it is.
1Corinthians tells us: 10:13 “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” He will help if you pray and ask Him to help.
Remember, Jesus was tempted in every point in every sin that you will be ever tempted with. And He never sinned one time in 33 years!
Hebrews 4:15 “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.”
Jesus is our High Priest.
We are commanded to be Holy, not only sober , free from outside influences, controlled by the Spirit.
What I learned? I smoked dope and drank and partied, and I learned “Don’t quit quitting” After a failure, I asked God to fill me with His Spirit again, to cleanse me, and forgive me. I kept “quitting” until it was completely gone from my life. You are filled with the Holy Spirit fora purpose. You are to be a living testimony, and you are given the power and boldness of The Holy Spirit to witness to others. I was very shy, but every day, I pray for boldness and Holy Spirit unction, then I go evangelize the lost.
You will battle sin all your life. Everyone does. If you diagnose the problem right, that you have a SIN problem, then you get the right solution.
Jesus is the answer.
